Roof Light Bar
As one of the first projects for the Defender, the light bar was not well documented. So here are just a few photos for what really was quite a simple project.
Essentially, the light bar was a piece of 3/8" x 6" aluminum flat bar. I cut a shape into the front edge with a hand jig saw, and then drilled it to receive the lights, rear wiring tube, and the clamping blocks that hold the bar to the roll cage that's just above the windscreen. The anodized aluminum clamp blocks were made by a company called Protection and Performance that I found in the U.K. They make custom roll bars for Land Rovers and other vehicles. It was easier to just purchase them than it was to make them myself.
The four ARB spot lights, and the remote control search light were through bolted to the aluminum flat bar.
This shows the wiring conduit sitting on the roof canvas. Once all the wires were threaded through it, it was bolted to the flat bar.
A closer look at the assembly and the black powder coated finish on the light bar and wiring conduit.
