AZLRO Land Rover Rally

March, 2013

Tucson, Arizona

This was the second time we attended an AZLRO rally in Tucson, AZ. The first was in 2010, which is when we had our initial introduction to the Arizona Land Rover Owners Club. And as you can see from the photo above, it's really going to the dogs. Our furry friends were all over the place. Something that was really great.

The difference with this rally is that it is being held at a different location in the Tucson area, so will have completely different trails and event venue from which to operate. The advantage for us was it's close proximity to Catalina State Park campgrounds. More like an RV park than a traditional campground, we got a spot that was essentially a 60 foot pull through like what we would get in a regular RV park, right down to the water and electrical hook ups.

Our spot in the Catalina State Park campground. This was a very large campground with several different sections based on what style of camping was taking place.

Rally headquarters for this year's event was the Hilton El Conquistador. It provided a large parking lot for morning staging of the trail runs, and a unique venue for the Saturday night dinner and post trail run festivities.

One of the most successful rallies yet for the AZLRO, it attracted over 70 vehicles and 150 attendees. Participants were able to choose from 27 different trail runs which were led by 18 Trail Leaders.

This officer trailed us for miles. Concerned as to the reason why, we all pulled over hoping he would drive by, but he also pulled in. Turns out he was just wanting to ask what so many Land Rovers were doing traveling down the road in a convoy. After that, we went our separate ways.
