Hopeful For Travel
As with 2020, the Corona virus impacted our ability to travel responsibly, even within our own country and province. In fact, some restrictions were such that we couldn’t even leave our own regional health district. It was only later in the year when things had stabilized enough thanks to the vaccines that we were able to start venturing out in the adventure truck for short week long trips. Mostly it was just to ensure all the systems on the truck still functioned properly after sitting for so long.
Things were looking up, until three atmospheric rivers hit southwest British Columbia. Known in the old days as the “Pineapple Express”, these were intense weather fronts that dropped nearly a meter of rain on the south coast region over the course of ten days. The resulting river floods washed out bridges and roadways on every route out of the Vancouver lower mainland. We were literally trapped in our city for over a month. The only way out was through the United States, but even that was blocked because of Covid border closures. Thus ended any travel for late 2021.
