Trans Canada Odyssey — British Columbia
July/August, 2019
Like Canada as a whole, British Columbia is also big. To drive from the southern border to the northern border, based on the two most direct routes, it’s either 2,372 kilometres or 2,015 kilometres. Either way, at 90kph for seven straight hours each day, it will take four days to make the trip, one way. From the coast to the border with Alberta is not nearly as far, but it is still a two day drive in our truck.
For this trip across Canada, we took the most direct rout into Alberta which was by the Coquihala Highway (Hwy 5), and then by the Trans Canada Highway (Hwy 1). But although this is the most direct route from the south coast into Alberta, the ups and downs of all the mountain ranges that we had to cross to get there still makes for a few long and tiring days. In the process of driving this route we would pass through four national parks, Yoho National Park, Revelstoke National Park, Glacier National Park and Banff National Park. Each one of these could be a separate trip of its own. Not this time though, as we had a heck of a long way to drive.
