2012 AZLRO Land Rover Rally

May, 2012

Cottonwood, Arizona

Located in Coconino National Forest in central Arizona, Cottonwood is a town of about 12,000 residents. Situated to the southwest of the red rock town of Sedona, Cottonwood has a different feel to it than what Sedona has with its towering red rock formation. Rather it has a less varied elevation with many of the trees from which it gets its name.

We've been through Cottonwood numerous times and really enjoy its scenery and close proximity to the old Jerome mining town up on the hill, and of course Sedona, with its stunning rock formations of deep rust red colour.

The rally was based out of the Blazin' M Ranch which is right beside the Dead Horse Ranch State Park and campground. This is where we set the rig up for the duration of the rally, along with many other rally attendees.

The rally consisted of three days, with trail runs on each day. As I was in poor health at the time of the rally, we only took part in one trail run, and chose one called the Red Rock Powerline, which was considered an easy trail.

For the rally dinner and vendor night, certain vehicles were on display for those who were interested in seeing Rovers of a unique nature. We set up our Defender and off road trailer. The trailer was finished the year earlier, but most people hadn't really seen it set up. It drew quite a bit of interest, as did most of the unique and well maintained vehicles.
